Maine's Freedom of Access Training Online
Maine's Freedom of Access Act now requires all elected school board members to receive training in the requirements of the Act.
For an overview of the Act, including the training requirements, you can review the newly revised Maine Freedom of Access Act Chapter (PDF) from Maine School Law for Board Members.
Also available for your information is a recent School Law Advisory article by Harry Pringle, Esq., "Legislature amends Freedom of Access Act - Yet again" (PDF). Not a subscriber to the School Law Advisory? Visit the subscription page for more information and access to many more articles on Maine's Freedom of Access Act.
To satisfy the training requirement, you can simply review thoroughly the Frequently Asked Questions (http://www.maine.gov/foaa/faq/) portion of the State's Freedom of Access website (http://www.maine.gov/foaa).
Once you have thoroughly reviewed the FAQ's, you must make a written or electronic record attesting that you have completed the training. We recommend that this record, in the form of a signed Certificate of Completion (PDF) be filed with the office of your superintendent and that you keep a copy for yourself.
